Boxing Returns to Ybor City

Former two-time world lightweight champion Stevie “Lil’ But Bad” Johnson (38-3-1, 17 kos) headlines the Ringsports/Silverhawk co-promotion as he fights Gavin “The Dominator” Down (29-7, 14 kos) for the NBA World Super Lightweight Championship in Ybor City on Mar. 31st at 8pm. Heavyweight Sherman Williams (28-10-2, 15 kos) takes on Adenilson Rodrigues (18-3-0, 14 kos) for the NBA’s Continental America’s Heavyweight Championship in the nights co-feature.

This card celebrates the new co-venture between Tampa’s Ringsports Boxing and Las Vegas based Silverhawk World Championship Boxing with their stable of nine champions all trained by world class trainer James “Buddy” McGirt. Additional events will be scheduled as co-promotions both in Ybor City and Las Vegas.

More than 1100 turned out for Ringsports inaugural event at the Cuban Club in Ybor on Feb 3rd. Despite torrential rain totaling more than 10 inches all day and night the fans were treated to the best party of the new year and an outstanding evening of great boxing, cigars, beautiful women and fun entertainment. An even larger crowd is anticipated as championship boxing returns to Ybor City for the first time in more than five decades. Erik Christenson, President/CEO of Ringsports Boxing and unofficial “king of Ybor City” boasts “I’m going to throw the greatest party Ybor has ever seen all topped off by one great boxing card.”

Also scheduled to appear on the undercard are cruiserweight Alfredo Escalera (7-0, 5 kos), middleweight Luis Hodge (5-0, 3 kos), junior middleweights Emanuel Gonzalez (3-0) and Wilson Montero (1-0), and debuters Miguel Rodgiguez and Jesse Francisco.
