Boxing info: Amir Khan to face Argentinian Diego Alejandro next

By Boxing Press March 11th, 2006 All Press Releases

It's England versus Argentina again when boxing wonderkid Amir Khan takes on Diego Alejandro Madole at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow on Saturday 25th March. The unbeaten Bolton hotshot has his seventh professional fight against the first South American opponent of his career and he knows that they come tough. England and Argentina have had some memorable clashes on the football pitch in the last few years - and Khan reckons his fistic display will be equally unforgettable.

"I've just had a look at his record and he looks like a good, tough kid," said Khan, who wasn't even born when Diego Maradona broke English hearts with his Hand of God at the World Cup in 1986.

"I'm hoping that he will give me a few rounds and give me a test, but I'm confident I can get another win to send all my Scottish fans home happy,"

"I know he'll come to have a go because these South American fighters are really hard and he will not be intimidated,"

Madole has a won 11 of his 16 fights with only two draws and has fought for the Argentine lightweight title, losing the narrowest of decisions against Sergio Eduardo Gonzalez on points.

The 25-year-old, from Santa Fe, is also ranked inside the world's top 100 lightweights - a higher position than Khan currently occupies.

"He must be decent if he's fought for the Argentine title because that's the equivalent of our British belt," said Khan.

And he added he is definitely expecting some Argie-Bargy.

"Argentinian boxers have a reputation for being tough, and I'm sure Madole will be no different, so I'll have to concentrate for every second of every round," he said.

"I'm waiting to get a few video tapes of him and then I'll sit down and work out my strategy for fighting him, but it will be a new experience because I didn't fight any South Americans in the amateurs."

Khan-Madole is just part of an action-packed card at the Braehead Arena, with Danny Williams topping the bill with a defence of his Commonwealth Heavyweight Title.
