Boxing Brat Pack

By Boxing Press March 16th, 2006 All Press Releases

Sports Network's very own Brat Pack will swing into action on May 13 with three of the South East's best young boxers involved in title action. At the home of boxing, Bethnal Green's York Hall, Kevin Mitchell, Ross Minter and Danny Hunt will all be appearing on a mouth-watering show supported by a bumper undercard.

Mitchell defends his IBF Intercontinental Super-Featherweight title, whilst Minter puts his English Welterweight crown on the line against Alan Bosworth.

And Hunt, who has signed an exclusive management and promotional deal with Frank Warren, will defend his English Lightweight title against Ryan Barrett.

All three fighters were at the Savoy Hotel in the heart of London to promote the show today - dressed in the the 1950s outfits forever associated with the Rat Pack film - and Warren hailed them as part of the future generation of stars.

ITV4, which has been pulling in triple the viewing figures Sky's Friday Fight Night Boxing gets, will screen the fight, and Warren is hoping the trio will graduate to headlining shows on ITV1.

"We've got three really talented guys here and it's exciting to be working with them," said Warren. "I think they can go on and make big names for themselves."

Former ABA champion Mitchell, 21, has his sights firmly set on the British title.

He won his IBF crown in December and followed it up with a comfortable points win over French champion Youssef Djibaba last month.

Minter, 27, has recovered from a knuckle injury that kept him off last month's ExCel card, and finds himself in with former English light-welterweight champion Bosworth.

Hunt, 24, retained his English title in a close fight against Lee Meager in November 2004, but has only fought once since then, an eight-round points win over Jon Honney.

His opponent, Barrett, 23, has an equally impressive record and has been previously linked to a fight with Amir Khan.

The card also includes former British light-middleweight champion Ryan Rhodes in an eight rounder, former ABA champions Matthew Marsh and Lee Beavis and youngsters Dean Smith and Richard Horton.

For tickets, priced £40 and £60, please contact the Sports Network Box Office on 01992 550 888.
