Boxing Info: Juan Urango

By Boxing Press March 30th, 2006 All Press Releases

Colombian knockout artist Juan Urango is healed from an injury to his left hand, back in the gym, and ready for his long-awaited shot at the IBF Junior Welterweight championship vacated earlier this week by Ricky Hatton.

“My hand is 100 percent and I’m looking forward to knocking people out with it,” said Urango, 16-0-1 with 13 KOs. “The first one on my hit list is Naoufel Ben Rabah, and I’m looking forward to becoming a World Champion.”

With the IBF crown vacant, the number one contender, Rabah, must face the leading available contender. With number three rated Junior Witter currently scheduled to face Demarcus Corley for the vacant WBC title, the leading available contender is the number four ranked Urango. Warriors Boxing Promotions is eager to make the fight as soon as possible.

“We’re ready, willing, and able to put on this championship bout between Juan Urango and Ben Rabah,” said Leon Margules of Warriors Boxing Promotions. “I’m letting the IBF know that we are prepared to begin negotiations immediately, and we are looking forward to Juan Urango becoming the new Junior Welterweight Champion of the World.”

In Urango’s last bout, on August 26, 2005, he stopped highly regarded Andre Eason in seven rounds to defend his WBC Latin American title. “Iron Twins” is also the current IBF Latino and NABO champion at 140 pounds, but his collection will not be complete without the IBF World Championship belt.
