Commonwealth Flyweight Champion Lee Haskins headlines this Friday's Sanigar Promotions bill at the Whitchurch Sports Centre in Bristol and the undefeated local hero will likely have his hands full with the challenge of ex-IBO Champion Zolile Mbityi of South Africa. Mbityi is no stranger to the UK, having tangled on British soil with some |
of the top domestic flyweights such as Damaen Kelly, Dale Robinson and Pete Culshaw, but has also gone up against world class opponents such as Alberto Jimenez, Silence Mabuzza, Zolani Petelo and Brahim Asloum. Despite the big step up in opposition, Haskins can't wait to meet his seasoned adversary in the ring and discusses this dangerous title defense along with his bright future, exclusively on SaddoBoxing.com!
SaddoBoxing: How's the training going?
Lee Haskins: "Great, I feel very confident for Friday, its going to be a great fight. I'm feeling really strong. I've really stepped up for this fight, on the pads, on the bags, I have been running 8 miles a day."
SB: What do you think of your opponent?
LH: "He's a good, strong, quality opponent. You know, he's a former champ and I’m not taking him lightly."
SB: You're a very confident fighter and known for your predictions of knocking out your foes; what round do you predict Mbityi will go in?
LH: "He he, I'm gonna go for four rounds, I’m going to put on a good show [lets off a cheeky smile]."
SB: What is your target for 2006?
LH: "Certainly a European Championship title. I just want to prove to the world how good I am, I want to fight the best."
SB: Being a sportsman, do you have any pre-fight rituals?
LH: "Not really, but I like to pose a little in the mirror [cracks off
another smile]."
SB: It's been an absolute pleasure speaking to you Lee, do you have any
message to your growing Bristol and National fan base?
LH: "I'd just like to say thanks to all my Bristol fans for their support, I'm going to put on a great show for them and without them I wouldn't be where I am now."
On a final note, Lee is as genuine as they come and had all the time in the world to have a good chat with us; a very nice character with an explosive ring style. Friday can only promise fireworks on Sky Sports One as Haskins will look to make the first defence of his Commonwealth title.
