Former jump Jockey, Ian Clyde, will make his professional boxing debut in the light-welterweight division on 6th May 2006 at The Kings Hall, Stoke-on-Trent.
Former champion Joey Singleton trained Ian, who boxed at Crewe ABC for 4 years and also represented the North West ABA. During his professional jump-racing career Ian had over a 100 rides and was connected with the Michael Stout trained horse Imperial Stride which the Gadolfin stable recently purchased.
On the difference between professional horse racing and professional boxing Ian said:
“Boxing is less dangerous. I’ve been knocked out 3 times race riding but never as a boxer”
With regard to his boxing ambitions Ian went on to say:
“I want to be a good professional and an asset to Impact Boxing and to Scott Lawton who is giving me this opportunity. Beyond that, I want to make my family and friends proud”.
The event will be the third show hosted by Stoke promoters, Impact Boxing, and seven bouts are planned in total. Popular Stoke lightweight Scott Lawton will once again top the bill when he defends his Midlands Area title against former Amir Khan opponent, Baz Carey over 10 rounds.
