Impact Boxing today revealed that Stoke’s popular Light-Welterweight, Gary Reid, is to appear on the undercard of the much heralded face-off for the British and Commonwealth Super-Middleweight titles between Nottingham’s Carl Froch (holder) and Belfast’s Brian Magee. The fight will take place at the home of British boxing,York Hall, Bethnal Green on 26th May over eight rounds.
The hard-hitting Reid, who is well respected and feared by many for his punching power, will take on Leo O’Reilly who has won all but two of his 15 professional bouts. Reid and O’Reilly have each stopped five of their previous opponents within the distance and the match-up promises to be explosive. Gary also defends his British Masters Title at The Kings Hall, Stoke on 6th May.
Currently ranked 12 in the light-welterweight division and looking to move up, the erudite Reid today said:
“I have never been more focused and have never trained harder than at the moment. I am feeling really good and there is a real buzz about the Impact gym, all the boxers there are really up for it and we are all feeding off the optimistic atmosphere. It’s time for me to step up to the plate and show the boxing public what I am really capable of; the mood I’m in, I feel like I can really shake up the light-welterweight division”.
On taking to the ring twice within three weeks Gary went on to say:
“Sure, it’s a challenge but its one that I relish, professional sport is about facing challenges and overcoming them and professional boxing, in particular, is about pitting oneself against a worthy opponent. Scott Lawton and Mick Carney of Impact Boxing have the faith in me to deliver, so too does the rest of Team Impact but most of all I’ve got the faith in myself and I’m ready to fulfil my potential. My target is the British title and I feel that these next two fights give me the opportunity to demonstrate that I am a serious contender.”
Reid wouldn’t been drawn into commenting on either opponent and merely said:
“Each of them are good boxers and I have the utmost respect for them both. I am looking forward to meeting them in the ring”.
Reid’s 6th May title defence at the Kings Hall, Stoke is on the same bill as Scott Lawton’s Midlands Area title defence against Baz Carey. Tickets are available by contacting: 0797 182 4337
