Norwich slugger Jon Thaxton, 31, has been added to the Woods v DeLisle undercard after signing a long-term deal with Fight Academy.
The light welterweight title-holder and Ricky Hatton opponent will face unbeaten Argentinean Jorge Daniel Miranda in a what will effectively be an eliminator to get into the world lightweight top 10.
John Ingle, Thaxton’s advisor, said: “This is a great chance for Jon. Lightweight is really suiting him because he can do the weight now he’s doing his diet better and obviously he’s huge at the weight. I think boxing Hatton, who’s a huge light welter, gave him the confidence that he can take the shots of a bigger man so at lightweight he knows there’s nothing to worry him.”
In fact, it is other lightweights who are worried about him. “The reason Jon is fighting an unbeaten prospect from Argentina is because no-one in Britain will fight him. Jon’s put together a great run over the last four years
“Just weeks ago Danny Hunt pulled out of an English Title fight rather than box him. Jon’s become the dangerman of the lightweight division and if no-one in Britain will fight him then we’ll take on this unbeaten 22-year-old prospect from Argentina.”
