Despite some incendiary statements by WBC junior middleweight champion Ricardo Mayorga at Wednesday’s final press conference, Saturday's challenger, Oscar De La Hoya, assures boxing fans that there will be a fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday night.
'The fight is on,' said De La Hoya, who will be looking to add another world championship belt to his trophy case in the long awaited 'Danger Zone' main event. 'I’m ready, Mayorga's ready, and we’re going to go to war on Saturday.
Mayorga claimed on Wednesday that he would not fight this weekend if his contracted purse was not raised, but De La Hoya is aware of those types of head games happening in the days leading to a bout.
'I know he wants to get at me as bad as I want to get at him, and nothing’s going to stop this fight from happening,' said De La Hoya. 'I will not be denied my victory.'
The De La Hoya vs. Mayorga pay-per-view telecast, beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on May 6 has a suggested retail price of $49.95, will be distributed domestically by HBO Pay-Per-View and will be available to more than 56 million pay-per-view homes. The telecast will be available in high-definition television for those viewers who are HDTV capable. HBO Pay-Per-View is the leading supplier of event programming to the pay-per-view industry.
