Gonzalez - Montiel Headline HBO’s Boxing After Dark Tonight

By Boxing Press May 27th, 2006 All Press Releases

The tenth season of the hit late-night HBO boxing series rolls on with the intriguing doubleheader HBO Boxing After Dark: Jhonny Gonzalez Vs. Fernando Monteil and Walter Matthysse Vs. Paul Williams, presented Saturday, May 27 at 10:00 p.m. (ET/PT), outdoors from the Home Depot Center in Carson, Cal., exclusively on HBO. The commentators for the HBO Boxing After Dark series are Fran Charles, Max Kellerman and Lennox Lewis. The event will be presented in Spanish language on HBO Latino.

HBO2 playdates: May 28 (7:15 a.m., 5:45 p.m.) and 30 (11:00 p.m.). All times ET/PT.

In the main event, it's a 12-round bantamweight showdown, as world-class competitors Jhonny Gonzalez (32-4-0, 28 KOs) and Fernando Montiel (32-1-1, 24 KOs), both from Mexico, square off in a contest that promises big action. These two talented 118- pounders - who are friends outside the ring - are sure to produce an exciting match.

The opening fight features Walter Matthysse (25-0, 24 KOs) of Trelew, Argentina, versus Paul Williams (29-0, 21 KOs) of Augusta, Ga., in a ten-round welterweight clash. Both 147-pounders are undefeated and the winner emerges as a formidable presence in this high-profile, highly talented weight class.

Immediately following the doubleheader, HBO will present the half-hour special "Countdown to Tarver-Hopkins," previewing the June 10 light heavyweight pay-per-view showdown between Antonio Tarver and Bernard Hopkins.
