Tonight on an Errol Anderson promoted bill at the Aston Villa LC in Birmingham, England, British Welterweight Champion and Commonwealth king Kevin Anderson clash on what is sure to be a classic slugfest. Muttley (Lee Woodley), 20-1 (11), secured the British title with a close, hard fought points win over Chorley technician Michael Jennings this past January and will likely be in a similarly tough contest with the challenge posed by Anderson, 16-0 (10). Scotsman Anderson won the Commonwealth crown with a narrow split decision win against Ghanian hardman Joshua Okine last September and was pushed hard by former sparring partner Craig Dickson in March before stopping his fellow highlander in the seventh.
It's a tough matchup to call. Muttley is seven years older than the 23 year old Anderson and has competed successfully in the light middleweight class, although against a journeyman grade of opponent. Anderson's win over Okine probably trumps Muttley's big win over Michael Jennings but obviously, past accomplishments will mean nothing when these two meet for the British title tonight in Muttley's hometown of Birmingham.
