Commonwealth Welterweight Champion Kevin Anderson ran the gauntlet last night in Birmingham, England, surviving an early onslaught from reigning British Champion Young Muttley before turning the tables on the hometown man and forcing a stoppage in the tenth round on an Errol Johnson promotion. Anderson, of Buckhaven, Scotland, was hammered to the floor in the second and was forced to dig deep many times by the hard punching Muttley during the bouts first eight rounds. By the ninth, Anderson's sharper skills and greater stamina began to tell but it was a perfect left hook by the Scotsman in the tenth that kicked off a leather avalanche that Muttley could not stave off.
Light middle Matthew Macklin fought in his hometown for the first time in his career and had little trouble ripping through seasoned Polish journeyman Marcin Piatkowski over the course of four one sided rounds.
