Boxing Triple Hitter:David Haye - Graham Earl - Martin Power

By Boxing Press June 14th, 2006 All Press Releases

Frank Maloney offers sports fans a summer triple hitter where one man stands alone and will survive or fall on his own and his training programme. Unlike the 23 who are supported by their wives and girlfriends in luxurious surroundings in Germany.

Certain people would like us to think the success of our England World Cup campaign depends on one man, Wayne Rooney, but a member of the England team was caught by the mic when a team mate was asked how much Rooney was missed “Like Heck we miss him’ was the response which was picked up inadvertently.

This is the difference between boxing and football. Boxing is all about one man and how they prepare for their campaign. We had the eleven who played the first game moaning about the heat and dehydration but a couple of weeks before they were at the Beckham’s World Cup party *well lubricated* and a few days before they set of they were at a training camp in Portugal but were spotted in *Monty’s Night Club in **Vale do Lobo*. Would a boxer prepare like this?

Martin Power who defends and tries to win his Lonsdale belt outright on the 29th June has had only four days off since beating Isaac Ward inside eight rounds at the York Hall. This is dedication.

Graham Earl has taken himself away from his family to a training camp in Tenerife as he attempts to conquer Europe when he takes on Juan Carlos Melero-Diaz at the National Sports Centre, Crystal Palace on the 14th July. This is sacrifice.

And David Haye who despite an injury has stayed on at his training camp in Miami in preparation for his forthcoming European title defence on the 21st July against Ismael Abdoul. This is commitment.

Could you imagine the England team doing any of this? It seems our boys can’t be away from wives, girlfriends or nightclubs for any length of time.

If they want to prepare properly and be in the best of condition and fitness they should maybe come and prepare in one of the boxers camps then they will learn all about discipline, isolation and training.

If England are not successful in the World cup at least this triple hitter from Frank Maloney will give us three reasons to celebrate.
