Couch Stripped of IWBF Title.

By Boxing Press December 7th, 2004 All Boxing Previews, Press Releases

England’s Jane “Fleetwood Assassin” Couch has pulled out of her rematch Friday night against former title-holder Jaime “The Hurricane” Clampitt. Couch, who has been stripped of her IWBF junior welterweight title, has been replaced on “Bragging Rights” by four-time world title challenger Eliza Olson against Clampitt for the now vacant IWBF championship at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. Clampitt (14-3, 5 KOs), of Narragansett (RI) via Canada, won a very competitive 10-round decision against Olson October 31 2003 in Providence for the vacant IWBF junior welterweight crown. Clampitt-Olson II is the 10-round co-feature on “Bragging Rights,” headlined by the 10-round WBC Youth middleweight title fight between defending champion “Bad” Chad” Dawson (15-0, 10 KOs) and former WBA light middleweight title-holder Carl “The Squirrel” Daniels (49-4-1, 31 KOs). Olson, fighting out of Fresno (CA), is the grand daughter of the late, great world middleweight champion Carl “Bobo” Olson, who reigned from 1953-1955.

Couch cited impetigo and cold sores on her face for pulling out of her rematch against Clampitt. The IWBF, however, vacated Couch’s title for violating IWBF rules and installed her as the No. 1 contender. Her failure to contact and consult the organization regarding her fight last Thursday night in England (with a title match this Friday) resulted in the aforementioned action being taken.

“These things happen in boxing,” CES president and “Bragging Rights’ promoter Jimmy Burchfield said. “As much as we looked forward to the Couch-Clampitt rematch, the Clampitt-Olson rematch could turn out to be an even better fight. Their first fight was controversial and the rematch will be good for women’s professional boxing. I’m old school, too, so I’m excited about another fight involving the great Bobo Olson’s grand daughter.”
