The British Board of Boxing Control made their latest round of announcements earlier this week concerning the sport in the UK. The top news was that super bantamweight triple champion Michael Hunter was to meet nemesis Esham Pickering this autumn in defense of the European title which Hunter won from Pickering in October of last year. Hunter has since defended the title on three occasions while Pickering had to scrap an excellent chance to win a world title in May due to a training injury.
At British Champion level, it was announced that: middleweight champion Scott Dann's rescheduled defense against ex-IBO and Commonwealth Light Middle titlist Richard Williams would take place in Plymouth on September 22 and will be promoted by Barry Hearn; newly minted heavyweight champion Scott Gammer will make the first defense of his belt against the mercurial Danny Williams no later than the end of November;
Jamie Moore's rescheduled light middleweight defense against Matthew Macklin will take place in Manchester on September 29 and will be promoted by Frank Maloney. Peter Oboh and Gareth Hogg will clash for the light middleweight title in Torquay on October 14 on a Chris Sanigar promotion. Meeting for the vacant flyweight championship, current Commonwealth titlist Lee Haskins will square off with a former holder of that belt, Dale Robinson no later than the end of November.
In an eliminator for the British Super Feather title, prospect John Murray will step up to the plate and face sharply skilled Scottish spoiler Ricky Burns in Manchester on October 14.
