Boxing Prospects Fill Out Quartey vs. Forrest Lineup

ByBoxing Press 01/08/200601/08/2006

In addition to the clash of former world champions Ike “Bazooka” Quartey and Vernon “The Viper” Forrest in the main event, and the co-feature pitting Sechew Powell vs. Kassim Ouma, the exciting “Now or Never” presented by StubHub card at the Theater at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night, August 5th includes top bouts featuring some of DiBella Entertainment’s most promising prospects.

On the undercard, Dash-DiBella Promotions’ undefeated knockout specialist Andre Berto (13-0, 11 KO’s) will make his Madison Square Garden debut when he battles the rugged Roberto Valenzuela (37-24-2, 33 KO’s) of Sonora, Mexico in an eight round welterweight showdown. Fighting out of Winter Haven, Florida, Berto has overwhelmed his opponents and wowed boxing fans with a combination of power and speed and looks to continue that success on boxing’s biggest stage.

Fellow Dash-DiBella prospect, Queens’ Super Middleweight Jaidon Codrington (11-1, 10 KO’s) will return to New York for the first time in nearly a year when he squares off against veteran Carl Daniels (49-9-1, 31 KO’s) of St. Louis, Missouri in a six round super middleweight bout. After a layoff of over seven months, Codrington has put together back to back wins setting up his bout with Daniels.

Also in action is the popular Punchin’ Pat Nwamu (11-1, 3 KO’s) of the Bronx against John Battle (14-16-1, 7 KO’s) of Molson, North Carolina in an IBA World Super Cruiserweight Championship bout.

Rounding out the undercard action of “Now or Never” is female fighter Noriko Kariya (4-1-1, 1 KO), the sister of NHL star Paul Kariya in a four round bantamweight match up against Michelle Herron (1-3) of Bothell, Washington. Bronx Junior Welterweight Darling Jimenez (19-2-2, 10 KO’s) will also see action, battling Arturo Brambilla (8-7, 4 KO’s) from Jalisco, Mexico in a six round bout.

HBO Sports’ “World Championship Boxing” will televise Quartey vs Forrest and Powell vs Ouma starting at 10 PM ET/7 PM PT.

Tickets are priced at $255, $155, $105, $55 and $35, and are available at the Garden Box Office, through TicketMaster by calling 212-307-7171, and on line at http://www.ticketmaster.com/ and http://www.thegarden.com.

Doors open at 7:00PM, first fight begins at 7:05PM.

  • Chris Billam-Smith vs Ryan Rozicki 03/06/2026
Chris Billam Smith fighting for Zuffa for the first time this Saturday. I think he is being set up to face Jai Opetia later in the contract. CBS became world champion when more talented British boxers like Okole and Riakporhe did not. In fact he beat both and forced them to go up to heavyweight. Chris got easily beaten by Zurdo in a unification and we all kn […]

  • Where does Usyk go from here? 27/05/2026
For once, I’m totally on board with the WBC. WBC moves to shut down Usyk-Verhoeven rematch talk I personally have NO wish to see a rematch between Rico and Usyk. Call it defensiveness of our sport. Just like I thought Fury’s narrow escape against Ngannou was cringeworthy… I also feel a sense of dread that we came “this close” to having a kickboxer defeat the […]
