He also won a silver medal in the British Four Nations championships in 2005 and represented Wales at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth games.

With regard to his first professional bout Thomas says: “I’ve been thinking about turning pro for two or three years now but I felt that I needed to get more experience in the amateurs, the Commonwealth Games were a fantastic experience and represented the perfect way to end my amateur career. I don’t know who my opponent will be yet but I am excited and looking forward to starting my professional career.”

“I am also looking forward to the opportunity to fight in Stoke; I have a lot of friends in the area and it’s not too far for my fans in North Wales to travel; I am hoping that I will have a huge support there. I have also heard very good things about Impact Boxing, they run very professional shows and my manager, Chris Sanigar, is very happy with his dealings with them.”

The Bristol based boxer turned promoter/manager, Chris Sanigar, manages Thomas and Aaron can’t praise him too highly: “Chris Sanigar is a great influence and I am sure he can help me to achieve my goals in boxing. He has already taken Scott Dann to British and Commonwealth titles, Lee Haskins to a Commonwealth title and Peter Haymer to an English title and that’s the sort of level that I want to be competing at eventually.”

Karl Stubbs of Impact boxing added: “We are committed to staging quality boxing events for the North Staffs public and with an excellent amateur record Aaron certainly fits the bill. By all accounts he is a talented boxer and has a bright future in the sport and having spoken to him a few times now I can also confirm that he will also prove to be a good ambassador for the sport.”

Aaron Thomas will make his first public appearance on 22nd August when he will appear at the Britannia Stadium along with English Lightweight Champion, Scott Lawton, at Stoke City’s Carling Cup tie against Darlington.
