David Diaz To Be Honored On Next 8 Count Boxing Card

Newly crowned interim WBC Lightweight Champion David Diaz will be the guest of honor at Chicago Superstars next Friday night, August 25th at the Aragon Ballroom, it was announced today by Dominic Pesoli, President of 8 Count Productions. Diaz, who won his title with a stunning 10th round TKO of Jose Armando Santa Cruz this past Saturday night in Las Vegas, NV as part of the HBO Pay Per View broadcast, will return to the scene of two of his biggest wins, over Jaime Rangel and Silverio Ortiz.

Said Diaz, “The fans in Chicago have always been great to me and I’m thrilled to share this victory with them. They’ve been a big part of my success during my career with their loyal support.”

Said Pesoli, “We’re all very proud of David and want to make it a special celebration for him in front of our fans. The whole world got an opportunity to see what Chicagoland fight fans have known for years; David is a true warrior and will fight to the end.”

“David’s recent wins over Jaime Rangel, Silverio Ortiz and Cristian Favela in Chicago showed that the championship rounds are when he does his best work and winning the title on Saturday night displayed that. “

“We’ve planned a great evening of professional boxing with Chicago Superstars and it will be a terrific time for our fans.”

Chicago Superstars is presented by 8 Count Productions along with Miller Lite and TCF Bank.

The fully air conditioned Aragon Ballroom is located at 1106 W. Lawrence Avenue on the north side of Chicago. Doors for this event will open at 7pm; with the first bell scheduled for 8pm. Tickets starting at $25 are available in advance by calling 312-226-5800.

Headlining Chicago Superstars is Chicago featherweight prospect Jose Hernandez, 20-3 (13KO) who will be featured in the main event against Philadelphia’s Lenny DeVictoria, 8-4 (2KO’s).

The co-main event features an eight round welterweight showdown between Chicago KO artist Luciano “El Michicano” Perez, 13-4-1 (12KO’s) and Francisco Rincon, 11-3 (6KO’s) of Dallas, TX.

In a heavyweight special attraction bout, Oak Lawn native Mike Mollo, 15-1 (9KO’s) will battle Willie “The Destroyer” Walker, 6-3 (5KO’s) of Athens, GA.

Chicago’s most popular female fighter, Rita Figueroa, 8-0 (3KO’s), the current WIBA Americas lightweight title holder, will battle in a six round bout.

In an eight round battle of featherweights, Chicagoland fan favorite Barbaro Zepeda will square off against “tough as nails” veteran Yamin Mohammed of Dayton, OH.

Rounding out the evening is the return of exciting newcomer Ashour Esho of Chicago who will battle Crossett, Arkansas native Will Diamond.

The open to the public weigh-in for this event will take place on Thursday, August 24th at Marisco El Veneno Restaurant, 6651 S. Pulaski starting at 7pm.
