Boxing News: Jamie Moore - Matthew Macklin

By Boxing Press September 14th, 2006 All Press Releases

At last, the long awaited and much talked about British Light Middleweight clash between Jamie Moore and Matthew Macklin finally takes place on 29 September at the George Carnell Leisure Centre in Manchester, England. This is the fight which has captured the imagination of the entire British boxing public, such is the significance and excitement that this match has generated. Not only is the historic and famous British Lonsdale belt up for grabs, but so are the bragging rights of who can hold their head up highest on the streets of Manchester.

Champion Jamie Moore is straining at the leash to go out and prove, once and for all, he is the best light middleweight in Great Britain and also the little matter of responding to certain snide comments which have been made about his eagerness to take this fight. As far as Jamie is concerned, it’s put up or shut up time! And anyone who has seen the way Moore has carved up his most recent challengers to the title he won back in 2003, will know this
is a man who you don't want to get angry.

For the last few years Matthew Macklin, the Manchester based Brummie, has been making men and women turn weak at the knees for different reasons. The good looking former ABA Champion turned professional at 18, and had TV pundit Barry McGuigan describing him as the “British Oscar De La Hoya” when he was still only 21.

Since teaming up with Ricky Hatton’s trainer Billy Graham, Macklin has gone from strength to strength and now returns to these shores after a successful stint of fighting in America.

This awesome pairing of two hugely popular and crowd pleasing fighters is just a taste of things to come as promoter Frank Maloney reveals this is only the first of three mouth-watering boxing shows he has planned for the new season. “I am committed to boxing, want to deliver the best shows and give the fans what they want” says Maloney. “British boxing needs new blood and I won't rest until I produce the next big star”.

This bold quest begins on the Moore v Macklin undercard when three unbeaten Maloney prospects feature in action. Former ABA champion Chris Pacey looks to carry on turning heads with his stylish skills, Brett Flournoy, also a former ABA champ, hopes to build on that impressive one round demolition during his pro debut last time out. And who can forget Craig Watson? The man who dumped Amir Khan on the seat of his pants looks to make it six fights unbeaten in his much anticipated return to the ring.

So light the fuse, retreat to a safe distance and enjoy the show!

THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE WINNER!
