Silverhawk Boxing inks feared heavyweight slugger Gerald Nobles

By Boxing Press September 18th, 2006 All Press Releases

Silverhawk Championship Boxing has signed heavyweight Gerald Nobles (24-1, 19 KOs) to an exclusive promotional contract, Silverhawk vice president Jeff Grmoja officially announced today.

"Gerald Nobles is one of the hardest punchers in boxing," Grmoja said. "He was a top 10 rated heavyweight who fought for the intercontinental title in Germany. We're excited about him signing with Silverhawk. Our biggest problem will be getting him sparring partners because he punishes them. He needs a few fights to get rid of the rust and then we feel he'll be back on the fast track in the wide-open heavyweight division. Nobles hasn't fought since November 20, 2004, when he lost by disqualification to now WBA champion Nikolay Valuev in Germany. Nobles rocked the (38-0), 7-foot, 325-pound giant dubbed "The Best from the East" - in the fourth round of their WBA Intercontinental title fight. Nobles was ahead on the judges' scorecards at that point. "I signed with Silverhawk because I was told they'd take me to the top," Nobles commented. "Give me two fights and I'll fight anybody in the world - turnout the lights! I don't care who they are - Brock, Peter, Klitschko, Maskaev. If they can go 12 rounds with me I'll give them the decision. I went to New York to train with Maskaev and was fired the first day because I beat him up so bad he couldn't take the fight. "I've watched too many guys I know I'm better than fighting for world titles. Sometimes it's not how good you are, but how good the people behind you are, and now I have Silverhawk as my promoter and Jim Rider as my manager. They have my back. When I was undefeated and rated No. 9, nobody in the top 10 would fight me because I can punch, box and take a punch. Some guys can punch, but can't box; others can box, but can't punch. I can punch and box with the best...both hands, too." Nobles' career has been in flux since his loss to Valuev. The Philadelphia slugger turned pro October 6, 1995 with a first-round TKO of Juan Carlos Antonio. His first nine wins were won by knockout, as 14 of his first 15.

In 2001, Nobles won a unanimous 10-round decision (96-90, 96-90, 97-89) against Sedrick Fields in Las Vegas and two fights later, Gerald took an eight-round unanimous decision (16-6-3) versus veteran Ron Guerrero (16-6-3) in Philadelphia. Nobles continued his path of destruction, registering a stunning first-round knockout of 257-pound Willie Williams (16-6) on April 17, 2004, breaking his opponent's nose and leg, in the "Mecca of Boxing," Madison Square Garden. Next up was Nobles' first high-profile fight against former world heavyweight champion Bruce Seldon, whose victims included Tony Tucker, Ossie Ocasio, Jose Ribalta, Jessie Ferguson and Joe Hipp. Nobles-Seldon, held at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, was stopped in the ninth round by referee Tony Weeks with Nobles earning a hard-fought victory by TKO. Gerald won a tune-up against Curtis Taylor by first-round TKO, setting up his aforementioned WBA Intercontinental heavyweight title bout against Valuev.

Nobles is scheduled to make his Silverhawk debut in the main event of an October 7 show in Pompano Beach, Florida. In addition to Johnston, Silverhawk Boxing's growing stable of world-caliber fighters includes two-time world lightweight champion Stevie "Lil' But Bad" Johnston, WBC Americas & CABOFE cruiserweight champ Prince Badi "The Boxing Prince" Ajamu, former IBF International cruiserweight champ William "KO King" Guthrie, NBA World & CABOFE heavyweight champion Sherman "The Caribbean Tank" Williams, USBO heavyweight title-holder Leo "Paco" Nolan, NBA super middleweight champ Rubin "Hollywood" Williams, IBO International middleweight champion Aaron "Homicide" Mitchell, NBA Intercontinental junior middleweight title-holder Eric "Murder" Mitchell, WBF All-American cruiserweight champion BJ "El Peligroso" Flores, former world title challenger Corey "Primetime" Johnson, and prospects such as cruiserweight Brandon "The Havoc" Harris and light middleweight "Classy" Chris Gray.

Nobles is promoted by Silverhawk Boxing, managed by Rider Boxing, and trained by Jimmy Arthur. For more information about Nobles or Silverhawk Boxing go to www.silverhawkboxing.com.
