Silverhawk Boxing signs three Mexican warriors

By Boxing Press September 22nd, 2006 All Press Releases

Silverhawk Championship Boxing has signed three Mexican fighters to exclusive promotional contracts -- Manuel “Shotgun” Gomez, Fernando “El Pillo” Trejo and unbeaten light middleweight
sensation Alexis Camacho.

“We decided our boxing stable needed more diversity, especially with Silverhawk now promoting fights on a regular basis in Las Vegas,” Silverhawk vice president of boxing operations Jeff Grmoja said. “Mexican fighters, of course, are known for their toughness and we’re delighted to have signed these three Mexican warriors. Gomez’ last fight was a major world title shot; Trejo remains ranked among the top 20 super featherweights in the world, while Camacho rates as one of the hottest prospects in boxing today.”

Gomez (28-11-2, 19 KOs) is coming off of a WBO title fight against Antonio Margarito this past February in Las Vegas. The 34-year-old native of Nuevo Laredo, now fighting out of Laredo (Texas), defeated Miguel Angel Gonzalez (44-2-1) by 10-round split decision in 2001 and later the same year handed Kofi Jantauh (21-0) his first loss as a pro, by 10th round TKO.

The 32-year-old Trejo (27-12-4, 17 KOs) is the former NABF super featherweight and lightweight title-holder, as well as the ex-WBC Fecarbox super featherweight champion. Mexico City-born Trejo upset Jose Armando Santa Cruz (20-0) by 10th round TKO in 2005. He also has beaten Luis Antonio Arceo (19-3-2) and Jose Leonardo Cruz (11-1-2), both by 12-round unanimous decision.

Two-time Mexico National amateur champion Camacho (12-0, 11 KOs) is unbeaten in 12 bouts and has put 11 of his opponents to sleep. Now fighting out of San Antonio (TX) by way of Monterrey, Mexico, Alexis is riding an 11-fight knockout streak after going the distance in his 2004 pro debut.

Gomez challenges WBC Continental Americas light middleweight champion Jose “Temible” Varela (15-2, 11 KOs) in the 12-round main event October 13 at the Orleans Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Camacho also is scheduled to fight on the card against an opponent to be determined.

In addition to Gomez, Trejo and Camacho, Silverhawk Boxing’s growing stable of world-caliber fighters includes two-time world lightweight champion Stevie “Lil’ But Bad” Johnston, WBC Americas & CABOFE cruiserweight champ Prince Badi “The Boxing Prince” Ajamu, former IBF International cruiserweight champ William “KO King” Guthrie, NBA World & CABOFE heavyweight champion Sherman “The Caribbean Tank” Williams, USBO heavyweight title-holder Leo “Paco” Nolan, heavyweight Gerald “The Jedi” Nobles, NBA super middleweight champ Rubin “Hollywood” Williams, IBO International middleweight champion Aaron “Homicide” Mitchell, NBA Intercontinental junior middleweight title-holder Eric “Murder” Mitchell, WBF All-American cruiserweight champion BJ “El Peligroso” Flores, former world title challenger Corey “Primetime” Johnson, and prospects such as cruiserweight Brandon “The Havoc” Harris and light middleweight “Classy” Chris Gray.
