Last night at the Rittal Arena in Wetzlar, Germany Arthur Abraham held onto his IBF Middleweight title during an intensely contested battle with challenger Edison Miranda on a Sauerland Events promotion. The two combatants engaged in what at times was a seething, white hot contest of wills and at other times a no holds barred dogfight complete with Miranda losing five points for low blows and head butts.
Both men settled any questions as to whether or not they could take a punch as they each found the target with full blooded power shots that landed flush with startling regularity. Abraham fought from the fifth round on with a broken jaw, an injury that almost stopped the bout but the champion elected to continue, finishing the bout through a combination of heart, punching power and good defensive skills.
In the end, all the point deductions kept a close fight from showing up that way on the scorecards with Abraham, 22-0 (17), handing Miranda, 26-1 (23), the Colombian’s first loss,
116-109, 115-109, 114-109.
