Association Of Boxing Commissioners President Tim Lueckehoff Issues Memorandum!

By Boxing Press September 26th, 2006 All Press Releases

TO:Member Commissions
FROM: Tim Lueckenhoff, President
RE: Boxers' Official Records

It has come to my attention that, on a number of occasions, "boxing service providers" (promoters, managers, sanctioning organizations, trainers, seconds, cutmen, or matchmakers) have suggested to boxing commissions that the record of a particular boxer is different than the official record of the boxer maintained by Fight Fax. In most instances, such assertions are premised upon the record of the boxer as reported by a boxing registry other than Fight Fax with the "boxing service provider" demanding that matchmaking decisions and other considerations of the boxing commission be based upon the other boxing registry's report.

As you may be aware, "boxing registry" is defined in the Federal Law as "... any entity certified by the Association of Boxing Commissions for the purposes of maintaining records and identification of boxers." 15 USC §6301(3). As you also may be aware, Fight Fax is the only boxing registry that is certified by the ABC.

Although other boxing registries have sought ABC certification, these boxing registries, to date, have not satisfied the express, written criteria of the ABC for such certification; and, as a result, certification has not been granted. Non-certified boxing registries may be receiving the results of bouts from entities other than a boxing commission itself, and, as a result, such results may not be accurate.

In view of the above, the records of a non-certified boxing registry or information supplied by a "boxing service provider" (other than the official records of Fight Fax) should not be utilized by a boxing commission for purposes of matchmaking, or other, considerations. In short, only the official records of Fight Fax should be utilized by a boxing commission for such purposes.
