Boxing Picks: Hatton Trainer Graham Backs Matthew Macklin To Win British Title

By Boxing Press September 28th, 2006 All Press Releases

Ricky Hatton's trainer Billy Graham travels onto hostile ground this Friday when his fighter Matthew Macklin challenges reigning British Light Middleweight Champion Jamie Moore on a Maloney Promotion from the GH Carnall Centre in Manchester, England. Irish Middleweight Champion Macklin may have taken up part-time residence in the British capital of boxing since joining Graham but to the throngs of Jamie Moore fans that will pack the sold out venue, the challenger remains an unwanted guest.

The long awaited contest between Moore, 24-3 (17), and Macklin, 17-1 (13), is easily the hottest domestic ticket in the UK this year and has divided opinion straight through the hardcore British fight public. While many are picking the more experienced Moore, celebrated trainer Billy Graham is fully confident that his fighter will walk out of the GH Carnall Centre a newly minted British Champion.

"I see Macklin stopping Jamie," said the blunt spoken Manchester icon. "Taking nothing away from Jamie, I really respect him, I think he's a wicked fighter and like him as a person as well but I just think Macklin is the more gifted fighter.

"I see him beating Jamie inside the distance, whether it'll be a knockout or stoppage, I don't know. Matthew is far from being the finished article but I see him going right up to the top and I think he's ready for Jamie now. It's going to be a real fierce, competitive fight, quite possibly a brutal fight, but I just think Matt has the edge in every department."

A full undercard of quality boxing supports the main event with welterweight Ali Nuumbembe, light welter Craig Watson, light middle Mark Thompson, lightweight Chris Pacey and light middle Brett Flournoy all scheduled for action.

The Jamie Moore vs. Matthew Macklin British Light Middleweight Championship fight card takes place on Friday, 29 September at the GH Carnall Leisure Centre, located on Kingsway Park, Davyhulme, Manchester, England, M41 7FJ. Sky Sports will televise live on SS1 starting at 22:00. For additional information contact Jeff Lewington on 0844 477 6466 or log onto www.frankmaloney.com
