Lee Haskins Vows To Take Commonwealth Boxing Belt From Tshifhiwa Munyai

By Boxing Press October 6th, 2006 All Press Releases

There will be much at stake tonight for Bristol's southpaw sensation Lee Haskins when he climbs through the ropes at London's legendary York Hall to challenge Commonwealth Bantamweight Champion Tshifhiwa Munyai. A loss can harm the career of any unbeaten boxer but for Haskins, this clash represents more than just a title belt; it's all about reclaiming lost British glory.

No one knows this better than Frank Maloney. The seasoned promoter was forced to pull his fighter, British Champion Martin Power, from the ring in the ninth round last June when South Africa's Munyai appeared to be the final stages of administering a frightful clanging to the St. Pancras man in a Commonwealth title winning effort.

The task at hand tonight for the challenger is clear; not only must Haskins hold off and master the gangly, swarming six foot tall Bantamweight Champion but the current Commonwealth Flyweight kingpin will also have to navigate a two division jump up in weight. Anyone remembering Ricky Hatton's difficulties going up one weight class earlier this year will appreciate the danger involved in Haskins' bold venture.

Maloney Promotions in association with Sanigar Events presents the Commonwealth Bantamweight Championship between Tshifhiwa Munyai and Lee Haskins at York Hall in London, England on Friday, 6 October. Sky Sports will televise the main event live on SS1 commencing at 22:00. Tickets are priced £30 and £60 and are available by calling the Maloney Promotions box office at 0871 226 1508 or by logging onto to www.maloneypromotions.com
