Calvin Brock Off Aussie Boxing Tournament Superfighter

By Boxing Press October 19th, 2006 All Press Releases

In a statement issued from their Sydney, Australia, offices today the shareholders, management and staff of the exciting and controversial new high-intensity, shortened format Boxing franchise – Superfighter – expressed their best wishes to Calvin Brock in his up-coming challenge of Vladimir Klitschko for the IBF World Heavyweight Championship.

Brock, who had already signed as one of the eight elite Heavyweights scheduled to contest the inaugural Superfighter Heavyweight Championship in Melbourne, Australia, on the first weekend of December, was released by the Superfighter organisation to take his shot at the traditional title.

“We’ve made it clear from the outset that Superfighter will enhance and support traditional, mainstream boxing, not compete.” said Commercial Director, Warren Spooner, after the launch of Superfighter in Melbourne Australia. “We’re sorry to risk losing Cal from the event but truly excited that he’s going to have his chance to fulfill his greatest boxing goal, the World Championship.”

Founder and CEO of Superfighter, Stephen Duval said, “Vladimir Klitschko is a worthy champion. I was there when he took the title from one of our other elite Superfighter contenders, Chris Byrd. It is understandable that we’re supporting Calvin, after all he is signed to be one of our contenders and sees the contribution Superfighter can make to sports fans and the whole boxing industry.

Calvin Brock states: “I am pleased that Superfighter has shown its integrity in the betterment of the sport of boxing by agreeing to cooperate with me and allow me to follow my dream and fight for the Heavyweight Championship of the World. I think the Superfighter concept is a great addition to the world of boxing, and I look forward to fighting in the Superfighter tournament without jeopardizing my goal to become and remain the Heavyweight Champion of the World.”
