Matty Askin Matty Askin Moves Closer To Jon Lewis Dickinson Rematch

Matty Askin believes Hatton Promotion’s deal with specialist broadcaster BoxNation puts him closer to a return with British cruiserweight champion Jon-Lewis Dickinson.

The Blackpool ace lost a ten round decision to Dickinson in an English title clash last year, but is confident it’ll be a different story if they meet again.

Dickinson, who only needs one more successful defence to win the Lonsdale belt outright, is promoted by Frank Maloney who has also joined forces with BoxNation – so Matty feels making the rematch should be easier than ever.

“Hatton Promotions signing with BoxNation should mean there’s more dates and more opportunities for me to keep busy. I think it makes another fight with Dickinson a very realistic possibility.

“I think people want to see us box each other again. It was interesting last time, but it’ll be a hell of fight next time. We’ve got to know each other now and I’m sure we’d both go in there and give our all.

“I was very immature last year. I went out and tried to blow him away and in the middle rounds I seemed to freeze. Next time will be completely different.

“But it’s not just Dickinson that BoxNation moves me closer to, though, there’s a lot of other good fights out there for me. I think Frank Warren’s got Tony Conquest and Neil Dawson so they could happen as well.”

Askin, who won the English title by beating China Clarke earlier this year, is currently recovering from an injury, but believes he can take the 14st 4lb weight class by storm when he returns to action.

“I’m expecting massive things in the new season and throughout 2014,” he said.

“The cruiserweight division is one where the opportunities are out there and I want to do the best I can and grab those chances with both hands.

“I think I’ve done a lot of growing up this year. I showed in my last fight that I think more and use my boxing skills and that will stand me in good stead going forwards.”
