In Cardiff this afternoon, Frank Warren hosted the official weigh-in ahead of tomorrow night’s “RED MIST” event at the Motorpoint Arena, where Undefeated WBO Light-Heavyweight Champion – Nathan Cleverly takes on Russian born – Sergey Kovalev.
Cleverly of Cefn Fforest, Wales, was in good spirits as the crowd chanted and cheered their support. He weighed in at 12 stone 6 lbs, while cool-looking Kovalev came in at 12 stone 5 lbs 8 oz.
Also on the Bill, Enzo Maccarinelli and Ovill McKenzie face each other in a re-match for the Commonwealth (British Empire) Light-Heavyweight Title held by McKenzie. McKenzie of Derby won by second round TKO last November when the pair met at Liverpool’s Olympia. But the stoppage was the subject of much debate – after Referee Ian John Lewis was deemed to have stepped in prematurely.
A Focussed McKenzie (aka The Upsetter and TheOne) tipped the scales at 12 st 6 lbs 8 oz, while Swansea’s ‘Big Mac’ weighed 12 st 6 lbs.
And Cardiff man – Gary Buckland defends his BBBofC British Super-Featherweight Title for the third time when he faces Stephen ‘Swifty’ Smith of Liverpool.
Buckland weighed 9 st 2 lbs 8 oz, Smith weighed 9 st 4 lbs
The fight-night will be televised live and exclusive in the UK on BoxNation (and HBO across America).
