The big news this week has obviously been about the cancelled David Haye v Tyson Fury fight scheduled for this coming Saturday in Manchester.

Haye sustained a nasty cut above the left eyebrow in sparring on Friday night.

Rumours are rife as to whether the fight will be rescheduled or not.

Carl Froch has bowed out of ‘Stepping Out’ on ITV this weekend. Reports say The ‘Cobra’ sustained a lower back sprain during the lifts in last weeks’ Rumba. Froch is set to fight George Groves in November.

The boxing community is still reeling from the tragic death of respected and well-liked Promoter, Matchmaker, Trainer and Manager – Dean Powell, who died on the 10th of September in London. Deans funeral takes place in Greenwich next Tuesday 1 October.

We also heard of the sad loss of former US Heavyweight Champ – Ken Norton, who passed away on Wednesday 18th September aged 70. Norton will best be known for beating Muhammad Ali in 1973.

Sadly, the Barnsley Metrodome Show promoted by Carl Greaves had to be abandoned after rival fans began rioting inside the venue. The main event could not go ahead.

At the Hilton Hotel, Mayfair, London, Stephen Ormond of Dublin won the vacant WBO Lightweight Title by stopping Hungarian – Adam Mate, in the first round. The Frank Warren Promoted Dinner Show was in aid of the DEBRA Charity.

At Medway Park Leisure Centre, Lewis Pettitt of London won the vacant BBBofC Super Bantamweight Title by outpointing Jamie Speight of Kingsteignton, Devon. Also on the Mickey Helliot – Hellraiser Promotions fight-night, Dublin-born Leon Senior won the BBBofC Southern Area Light Heavyweight Title by outpointing Dan Woodgate of Kent.

On Saturday, at the Concord Centre, Sheffield, local man Dave Fidler scored a TKO in the ninth round against Polish-born Tomasz Mazurkiewicz of Manchester, to win the vacant International Masters Light-Middleweight Title. The Show was promoted by Glyn Rhodes / Pioneer Boxing Promotions.

At the Octagon Centre, Sheffield, local man Sam Matkin and Lee Mould of Sunderland drew 76-76 in their bid for the vacant British Masters (Bronze) Lightweight Title. The show was promoted by Dennis Hobson Promotions.

In Newport, Wales, Mitch Buckland of Cardiff, Wales, won the vacant BBBofC Celtic Lightweight Title by outpointing Home-fighter Craig Woodruff of Newport. Greg Steen Promoted.

And finally, at the Copper Box Arena, London, Andy Ayling (Double ‘A’ Promotions) hosted a show which featured five Title fights!

Billy Joe Saunders of Hatfield successfully defended his British Middleweight Title and Commonwealth (British Empire) Middleweight Title by outpointing John Ryder of Islington.

Dereck Chisora of Finchley, London, scored a fifth round TKO over German – Edmund Gerber, to win the vacant EBU (European) Heavyweight Title.

Frankie Gavin of Birmingham successfully defended his British Welterweight and Commonwealth (British Empire) Welterweight Titles by outpointing David Barnes of Manchester.

Liam Walsh of Cromer, Norfolk, won the vacant WBO International Super Featherweight Title and defended his Commonwealth Title by Majority Decision over Joe Murray of Manchester.

And, Paul Butler of Ellesmere Port, won the vacant WBO Inter-Continental Super-Flyweight Title by Unanimous Points Decision over Miguel Gonzalez of Chile.

Over in the Ukraine, Brit Boxer – Nick Blackwell of Trowbridge lost out to Ukrainian Max Bursak by Unanimous Points Decision in their twelve round Middleweight Contest.
