Carlos Baldomir, who despite not having lost a fight in more than nine years, came out of virtual obscurity last January to register upset victories over Zab Judah and Arturo Gatti, takes on boxing’s pound-for-pound champion Floyd Mayweather for Baldomir’s welterweight championship. “PRETTY RISKY”— Mayweather vs. Baldomir for the World Boxing Council welterweight championship takes place Saturday, November 4, at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas and broadcast live on HBO Pay-Per-View.
Baldomir, who’s promoted by Sycuan Ringside Promotions, tipped the scales at 153 ½ pounds at his WBC mandatory seven-day weigh-in. The following quotes are from the weigh in:
Carlos Baldomir (43-9-6, 13 KOs):
“In my career, I have boxed everybody in their hometown, with their fans referees and judges. I beat (Zab) Judah in New York. Then I beat (Arturo) Gatti in Atlantic City. Mayweather can go ahead and look past me in Las Vegas. Nobody outside of Sycuan Ringside Promotions has ever expected me to win, and that’s fine. But on Nov. 4, I will show not only why I won the belt but why I will leave the ring with it.”
“A lot of credit goes to Sycuan Ringside Promotions for guiding my career to the point it is now. They’ve always treated me first-class in every way have done everything possible to help me succeed.”
“When I get in the ring and fight, I am doing it for my family. Every punch I take is for my wife and kids, so that they never have to have the life that I had growing up.”
