Paul “The Punisher” Williams on Mayweather - Baldomir boxing undercard

By Boxing Press October 31st, 2006 All Press Releases

One of today's rising stars in boxing is undefeated welterweight Paul "The Punisher" Williams who fights out of Aiken, South Carolina. Williams has a stellar record of 31-0 23KO's and is the mandatory challenger for World Champion Antonio Margarito's WBO Welterweight Title.

In preperation for his fight with veteran contender Mauro Lucero, Williams is looking very sharp in the gym, under the guidence of his long-time trainer George Peterson. Williams and Peterson both took time out from their busy training schedule to attend The Fall Brawl on October 21st in Columbia, S.C. Paul is confident that he will be able to handle anything that Lucero, with a record of 42-11-1 28KO's, can throw at him when they meet on November 4th at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This is one of several fights on the undercard of the much anticipated fight between Floyd Mayweather and Carlos Baldomir for the WBC, IBA and IBO Welterweight Titles.

Paul Williams, who is extremely tall for a welterweight, gets great leverage on his punches and keeps up a very busy work rate. Better than average power along with a great chin make for a difficult fight for anyone in the division.

He is the first welterweight to call out the dangerous and much-avoided Antonio Margarito, which he did after knocking out power-puncher Walter Matthysse live on HBO back in May of 2006. This is a true sign of his confidence and also of his aspirations in becoming the best welterweight in the world.

It is only a matter of time before one of the welterweight champions is forced to fight Paul "The Punisher" Williams and this fight, which will be televised live on HBO Pay-Per-View, will help him get the exposure he needs to get the big fights.

On behalf of the South Carolina boxing community, we want to thank Paul Williams for not forgetting us, and always making the time to appear at local fight cards and supporting the fighters from his home state.
