At Walsall Town Hall last night, Errol Johnson (EJKO Promotions) hosted a fight-night billed as ‘Double Trouble 2’. It headlined the British Super-Featherweight Title Eliminator between Chris Male of Cradley and Coventry’s Troy James which lasted less than 3 minutes. Unlike Male, James didn’t need any settling in to the fight and started off confident and focussed. Male was sent crashing to the canvas at the end of round one and he was immediately tended to by ringside medics. Thankfully (and surprisingly), it took just moments before he was able to get up.

Also on the Bill, Steven Pearce of Stourbridge won the British Masters Welterweight Title by scoring a fifth round knockdown of Stafford’s Rob Hunt. Pearce landed a sickening body-shot and Hunt was unable to make the count.

Two contests – Chris Keane and Lee Glover – sadly did not go ahead, leaving five fights in total.

Lights above the ring were temperamental (!) and one fan was a little too enthusiastic (!) – but it was a lively, supportive, atmosphere as usual at the EJKO event.

Undercard results:

Tom Stokes (West Bromwich) v Danny Donchev (Rosehill, London via Bulgaria)
4 x 3 Welterweight Contest

A scrappy fight between these two, with likeable Donchev sustaining a cut to the left of his head in round 2

Stokes gets the points win 40-36

Lennox Clarke (Debut) (Halesowen) v James Child (Worthing)
4 x 3 Super-Middleweight Contest

Debutant Clarke sent Childs to the canvas in round one before securing a second round stoppage in his first pro outing. Childs deemed unable to continue by Referee Shaun Messer.

Ainsley Ratcliffe (Debut) (Tipton) v Csaba Kovacs (Budapest)
4 x 3 Flyweight Contest

Debutant Ratcliffe struggled from the ‘off’ against a keen Kovacs – who gave it everything. Ratcliffe sustained a busted nose in the opener which didn’t help his efforts and despite Ratcliffe losing some momentum in the fourth and final round – he was still throwing punches.

A tough first outing for the Tipton lad – losing on points 39-38 to a very gain Kov
