At The 2006 WBC Convention held recently in Croatia, the following awards were given out for WBC Women's boxing:
Fighter of the Year : Jelena Mrdjenovich
Fight of the Year: Yvonne Reis vs. Conjestina Achieng For the WBC Middleweight Title
Promoter of the Year: Rock & Sock Promotions
WBC Ambassador of Good Will: Sharon Anyos
Work Horse of the Year: Ed Pearson
Aileen Eaton Lady of the Year Award: Jill Diamond
The organization's charity program, World Boxing Cares, was ratified by all of the WBC's 163 countries. In Croatia, a care center for handicapped children and an orphanage was visited by Jill Diamond, Sharon Anyos, Marvin Camel, Oksana Semenishina, David Denkins, Stephen Blea, Ray Carruso Stephen Boyce, Vlada Laurinavicius and Boxing Bob Newman.
Recommendations made by the WBC Women's Committee:
1: A continuation of the 2 minute rounds.
2: Compulsory breast protection of choice. Sports bras cannot extend above the line of the armpit upwards, and no lower than the zxiphoid process downward. It cannot cover the lower rib area
3: WBC champions who lose in an equivalent or lower weight category also lose their WBC Title.
4: We are shortening the time a champion has to fight her mandatory to one year.
5.:A WBC Champion cannot fight for another title without WBC permission, and never before she has conducted a 120 day defense of her title.
