Boxing’s Dino Duva to Brian Minto: See You in Court

By Boxing Press November 30th, 2006 All Press Releases

Promoter responds to runaway heavyweight’s attempt to desert his promotional contract.

Promoter Dino Duva has a simple response to the public war of words being waged by his renegade heavyweight, Brian “The Beast” Minto.

A recent winner over comebacking German Axel Schulz, Minto (27-1, 16 KOs) has been publicly proclaiming his promotional free agency, despite being under what Duva says is a valid contract with Duva Boxing.

Duva’s Statement:

“First, I want to congratulate Brian on his impressive victory. I hope he comes to his senses. Brian knows what I did for his career. Without me he would never have been in the position to get the Schulz fight. I’ve always had the confidence in his ability to be one of the top heavyweights in the world, but the way he’s trying to screw me now isn’t right. He and I both know I have a valid contract and if I have to, I will take it to whatever court is necessary.

I hope Brian wakes up, does the right thing and avoids having to pay legal fees for something he’s going to lose. I’m not going to glorify the various outrageous charges Brian has been making toward me.

It makes me sick that the great sport of boxing is in a very litigious mode right now. But, when people pay no regard to contracts and basically dare you to sue them, what else can you do? I feel very secure in my integrity and the way I conduct business with fighters. I treat everyone very fairly and work my heart out for them. Unfortunately, as everyone in boxing knows, Brian Minto has spent his whole career using and then screwing good people who tried to help him. I just want to let him know that if he continues down this road, he should be saving all his best excuses and the money he made against Schulz for a day in the near future that is most certainly coming…”

“See you in court, Brian.”
