There were three fight cards of note last night in America, so let's get to it.
The top fight taking place was the final bout of the Showtime super middle tournament between prospects Anthony Hanshaw and Jean Paul Mendy at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven, MS. At stake was the vacant IBO belt but when the smoke cleared from the highly competitive action, a draw was declared with scores of 115-113, 113-115 and 114-114. Hanshaw goes to 21-0-1 (14) while Mendy moves to 23-0-1 (12).
Also in Mississippi, at the Beau Rivage Casino in Biloxi, the fighting Peterson brothers were successful in their bouts. At lightweight, Anthony Peterson, 22-0 (16), defended his WBO NABO crown for the first time with a fourth round KO of Juan Humberto Garza, 28-3 (23). At light welter, Lamont Peterson, 20-0 (8), outpointed Juaquin Gallardo, 17-6-1 (5).
Heading west to Dickerson's Event Center in Las Cruces, NM, ex-WBC Interim Lightweight titlist Jose Armando Santa Cruz, 24-2 (13), had to climb off the canvas to decision Luis Antonio Arceo, 19-5-2 (13).
