Martin Power vs. Tshifhiwa Munyai: Payback Or Playback?

By Boxing Press January 20th, 2007 All Press Releases

While celebrated the Christmas and New Year festivities, Martin "Too Much" Power, 19-1 (8), has been relentlessly training in preparation for his red hot rematch with Tshifhiwa Munyai, 12-0-1 (7), for the Commonwealth Bantamweight title at Goresbrook LC in Dagenham, England.

This is Power's first fight since being controversially stopped by the gangly South African in the ninth round at York Hall in June 2006, after the previously unheard of Munyai stepped in as a last minute replacement for the injured Ian Napa.

Hard hitting Power must be admired for his insistence on coming straight back at Munyai, the reigning Commonwealth Champion, who gave him a beating when they last met. In doing so, the gangly Munyai inflicted the only dent in Power's otherwise unblemished career.

In this hugely anticipated rematch, Power is confident that this time he can negate the in-ordinarily tall Munyai's awkward boxing style. The hard-working Power confidently predicts that this fight will be his first step towards this year’s goals of outright possession of the coveted Lonsdale belt and European title; and in doing so, will foil Munyai's aim of a achieving a hat trick of British scalps.

On an action packed card the undefeated Gary "Hot Stuff" Woolcombe, 22-0 (7), continues his march to the top and again enhances the quality of the evening when he meets the dangerous Andrew Facey, 18-4-1 (5). In what looks a thrilling contest for the English Light Middleweight title, Woolcombe meets his most formidable opponent to date in his continued climb up the rankings.

Brian Magee, the fearsome former IBO Super Middleweight Champion, ensures the bar is not lowered when he takes on the talented Andrew Lowe, himself defeated only once in sixteen fights, for the final eliminator for the British Light Heavyweight title.

An undoubted highlight of this high class card is the first appearance on British soil of Scott Belshaw, the six foot seven Irish sensation. The 21 year old Northern Ireland resident, known as "The white George Foreman", has destroyed all three of his opponents to date within two rounds.

Frank Maloney Promotions presents "Payback or Playback?", the Tshifhiwa Munyai vs. Martin Power Commonwealth Bantamweight Championship rematch at Goresbrook LC in Dagenham, England on January 26, 2007. Undefeated Gary Woolcombe challenges English Light Middleweight Champion Andrew Facey and Brian Magee faces Andrew Lowe in a Final Eliminator for the British Light Heavyweight title. Tickets are available by logging onto www.frankmaloney.com or by calling the Box Office at 0844 477 6466. Sky Sports broadcasts live on SS1 starting at 22:00.
