At Preston Guild Hall last night, Steve Wood of VIP Boxing Promotions hosted a night of boxing which featured five contests.
In the headlining bout, Rick Godding of Bolton added another win to his unbeaten record with a points victory over Adam Jones of Denaby Main, Yorkshire.
Results as follows:
Rick Godding (Bolton) v Adam Jones (Denaby Main, Yorkshire)
6 x 3 Middleweight Contest
Jones got off to the better start with a good round one for the Yorkshire man.
Godding used the left to score shots to the head and body. He sustained a cut to the bridge of his nose in the fifth round.
Godding gets the points victory 58-56 taking him to 21 wins and 1 draw (no losses).
Tomi Tatham (Bentham) v Jamie Ambler (Aberystwyth, Wales.)
6 x 3 Light-Heavyweight Contest
Tatham had a tough contest against experienced Ambler. He had a good round one but took a number of head-shots during the contest.
Tatham gets the points win 39-37
Adam Machaj (Oswaltwistle) v Larry Olubamiwo (Hackney)
4 x 3 Heavyweight Contest
Machaj had an easy win over Olubamiwo but didn’t seem very motivated. He had a good round three – using the jab with succession and there was less work coming from Olubamiwo.
Another win for the ‘Heatseeker’ with a score of 40-36
Alex McCloy (Blackpool) v Dan Carr (Trowbridge)
4 x 3 Super-Welterweight Contest
Carr was deducted a point in round two for persistent holding and told to ‘watch the head’ by Referee John Latham. McCloy was also warned in the fourth but wasn’t deducted a point.
It was a messy last round with both men grappling together.
McCloy gets the points win 40-35
Paul Morris (Preston) v Mitch Mitchell (Lincoln)
4 x 3 Cruiserweight Contest
Both men were warned by Referee Steve Gray for hitting back of head in round four, then moments later – Morris was caught with a decent headshot from ‘Mad Mitch’.
Mitchell gets the points win 39-37
