Danny Green Fully Focused On IBF Pan Pacific Boxing Defense

By Boxing Press January 21st, 2007 All Press Releases

IBF Pan Pacific Light Heavyweight Champion Danny Green meets PABA Champion Paul Murdoch tonight at the State Netball and Hockey Centre in Melbourne, Australia. The hammer fisted ex-WBC Interim Champion is making his second foray into the light heavyweight ranks after tangling with such top super middleweights as Eric Lucas, Markus Beyer and Anthony Mundine.

Despite lacking the instant name recognition of those 168 pound opponents, Paul Murdoch brings no small measure of danger into this bout with Green. The Victoria based slugger has stopped seven of his last ten victims and has only been stopped himself twice, once fighting for the Australian Cruiserweight title and then in an unsuccessful challenge to WBO Light Heavyweight Champion Zsolt Erdei over 10 rounds in May of last year.

Green isn't taking this bout lightly and refused to speculate on a potential clash with WBA Light Heavyweight Champion Silvio Branco later this year. "I cannot look past this fight as Paul Murdoch is a very tough and experienced fighter," said the Perth puncher. "I never disrespect my opponents in that way as it can spell disaster in the ring."

Coming off a shattering ninth round knockout victory over tough domestic rival Jason DeLisle, Green is keen to demonstrate that he can campaign and succeed at a higher weight. "I am feeling fit and strong and the move to light heavy has certainly made me more confident," he said. "To again achieve world title success is my dream and to retire as world champion would leave me fully satisfied with my participation in the sport."

Green Machine Promotions present "Lights Out" featuring Danny Green vs. Paul Murdoch for the IBF Pan Pacific and PABA Light Heavyweight Championship belts along with full undercard at the Melbourne State Netball and Hockey Centre in Melbourne, Australia on Sunday, January 21. Doors open at 5:30 PM. Tickets available at www.ticketmaster.com.au
