Asian Boxer Speaks Out Against Racism In British TV Show Big Brother

By Boxing Press January 23rd, 2007 All Press Releases

Statement from Asian boxer Akaash Bhatia

"As I prepare for my fifth professional fight on 26 January in London, I have been disgusted by the treatment of my countrywoman Shilpa Shetty by Londoner Jade Goody on Big Brother, the reality TV show.

"I train in Frank Maloney's multicultural gym in Bermondsey and I wish to stress Ms Goody's behaviour, and that of all people like her, is not typical of Londoners or human beings.

"I wish to formally invite Ms Goody to firstly come to Frank Maloney's Fitness Academy where I train so she can witness first hand an example of the multicultural environment Londoner’s work in and learn some real values.

"Secondly, I welcome Ms Goody to be my ringside guest on Friday 26 January and sit among my friends who come form every section of the London community."

Akaash "Kash the Bash" Bhatia, 4-0, is the UK’s first professional Sikh boxer.

Renowned for his good looks, the unbeaten Bhatia has been nominated for the prestigious Sony Entertainment Television Asia Sports Personality of the Year Awards, and in doing so is bringing the glamour back to boxing.

Frank Maloney Promotions presents "Payback or Playback?", the Tshifhiwa Munyai vs. Martin Power Commonwealth Bantamweight Championship rematch at Goresbrook LC in Dagenham, England on January 26, 2007. Undefeated Gary Woolcombe challenges English Light Middleweight Champion Andrew Facey and Brian Magee faces Andrew Lowe in a Final Eliminator for the British Light Heavyweight title. Tickets are available by logging onto www.frankmaloney.com or by calling the Box Office at 0871 226 1508. Sky Sports broadcasts live on SS1 starting at 22:00.
