By Boxing Press January 27th, 2007 All Press Releases

The life and times of Connecticut’s greatest boxers such as Willie Pep, Marlon Starling, Louis 'Kid' Kaplan and Bat Battalino, among others will be forever remembered and celebrated within Mohegan Sun in southeastern Connecticut. The Board of Directors for the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame announced today that its future home will be located along the concourse of Mohegan Sun Arena beginning in the summer of 2007.

“We’re honored to have been chosen as the future home for the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame,” said Bruce Bozsum, Chairman of the Mohegan Tribe. “We’re thrilled to be able to recognize some of our State’s greatest athletes and celebrate a sport that has brought many memorable moments to our destination over the years.”

“From the moment we opened our doors, Mohegan Sun has been synonymous with boxing in Connecticut,” continued Mitchell Etess, President and CEO of Mohegan Sun. “We have brought the best in local, regional and national championship boxing excitement to the State, and it’s only natural that we continue to celebrate the history of this great sport in Connecticut.”

At Mohegan Sun, the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame will consist of memorabilia commemorating the State’s greatest boxers and boxing personalities, including Willie Pep, Marlon Starling, Johnny Duke, Louis “Kid” Kaplan, Christopher “Bat” Battalino, “Slapsie” Maxie Rosenbloom, Lou Bogash, John Burns, Manny Liebert, Nathan Mann, Gaspar Ortega and Chico Vejar.
