Jamie Clampitt won the vacant IFBA Lightweight Title last night in Providence, RI, handing out a painful lesson to Women’s boxing icon Mia St. John. Despite a significant advantage in experience, St. John was never able to keep the stronger Clampitt at bay or mount a significant offense of her own on the CES Boxing promotion.
Clampitt, 17-4-1 (7), displayed a well rounded attack, painting her older rival with a body to head strafing that had St. John reeling at times but the former Playboy Bunny had the fitness to stay off the canvas. Clampitt swept the scorecards 100-90 (twice) and 99-91 as St. John, 43-8-2 (18), was hard pressed to win a round.
On the undercard, former Commonwealth Light Middle Champion Ossie Duran dominated ex-Contender contestant Johnathon Reid over eight one sided rounds.
Duran, 23-5-1 (9), canvassed Reid, 34-5 (19), twice in the sixth round but the Tennessee man managed to survive the assault and go on to finish the bout, losing on the cards 80-70 (twice) and 78-72.
