Heavyweight "Fast" Eddie Chambers lived up to his nickname last night on an ESPN Friday Night Fights bill at the Suffolk County Community College on Long Island, NY and belted fellow undefeated prospect Derric Rossy to the point of referee stoppage in the seventh round. The experience and greater skill of Chambers, 28-0 (16), became evident as the rounds went on and former football player Rossy, 15-1 (9), couldn't capitalize on his height and weight advantages.
Both fighters were cut in the bout but it was a sizable swelling over the eye of Rossy at 2:32 of the seventh that prompted the referee's action, halting what was becoming a one sided affair. With the win, Chambers claims the vacant USBA Heavyweight title and retains a spotless record, no doubt positioning himself for a more significant contest later in the year.
