Impact Boxing: Danny Johnston Added To Kings Hall Bill

By Boxing Press February 16th, 2007 All Press Releases

Fanatical Stoke City fan Danny Johnston has recovered from injury and has been added to the line-up of the Impact Boxing promoted event at the Kings Hall on February 24th. Johnston, from Cobridge in Stoke-on-Trent, had originally been pencilled in for the show but had to withdraw due to a slight injury sustained in training. Two weeks of intensive physiotherapy has paid off and however and Johnston was passed fit to box today.

Johnston, always popular with the Kings Hall crowd, has made all his appearances in the pro ring at the Potteries venue and has been a regular on Impact promoted cards since November 2005. Against the tough and more highly rated Martin Marshall, Johnston impressed last time out securing a hard fought points victory over the Sunderland man. In May last year Johnston scored his first knockout victory in the third round against a very game Derrick Grieve.

An opponent is yet to be secured but Johnston is keen to improve his record: “I’ve had a few distractions outside the ring during the last few months, I moved house for one thing, but I am fully focused on my boxing again now and keen to get back into the ring.”

“I loved boxing as an amateur and I am equally enjoying the professional side of the game. I know I have the potential to work my way up the rankings and would like to match the achievements of Scott Lawton and Chris Edwards from our gym. They both set a great example to us younger lads, both of them are real pro’s. I’m back in full training now and will be ready for whoever I get on the 24th.”

“The set-up at Impact is excellent and we have some of the best trainers in the country and the results speak for themselves. We’ve got two English champions and two lads fighting for British titles which, for a relatively small gym, is incredible. I’m proud to be associated with Impact Boxing and I think everyone in Stoke should be proud of them too”.

Other than Johnston’s all matches have now been made and the rest of the line-up is as follows: Gary Davis versus Jamil Hussain, Jimmy “The Whirlwind’ Doherty versus Chris Brophy, AA Lowe versus Barry Downs, Justin “Ritchie’ Jones versus Richard Collins and Chris Goodwin versus Kristian Laight.

“I’m looking forward to another exciting evening at the Kings Hall,” said Mick Carney of Impact Boxing. “I think we a are justifiably earning a reputation for putting on good quality bouts that are evenly matched and provide the fans with plenty of thrills. It takes a lot of effort and hard work from all concerned to put the event on. Consequently, we are all grateful for the overwhelming support that we get from the Stoke-on-Trent public, without them our shows wouldn’t be viable.”

Tickets for the event can be obtained by calling Impact Boxing on: 0845 156 7168 or through their website www.impactboxing.com
