Unbeaten B.J. Flores has become a belt collector and he plans to add another piece of hardware to his growing display case on March 2 when he challenges IBA super cruiserweight champion "Punchin'" Pat Nwamu in the 12-round co-feature on "Qwest for Greatness, co-promoted by Silverhawk Championship Boxing and Knockout Promotions, at Qwest Arena in Boise, Idaho.
Idaho favorite Cleveland Corder (35-3, 20 KOs) headlines in his farewell fight for the vacant IBC middleweight championship against an opponent to be determined.
World Boxing Council No. 26-rated Flores (18-0-1, 12 KOs) takes on the Vito Antoufermo-trained Nwamu (12-1, 4 KOs) who last August captured the IBA title via a third-round TKO of John Battle.
Flores, two-time U.S. National Championships amateur winner, is coming off of a 12-round unanimous decision against Chris Thomas last month for the NBA and vacant WBF super cruiserweight title belts. Highly respected Danny Smith trains the 28-year-old Flores, now fighting out of Phoenix, and BJ has beaten former NABO champion Jermell Barnes (D8) and ex-NABF title-holder Ali Supreme (KO1).
"Nwamu doesn't have a lot of power but he's a quick, shifty fighter," BJ said. "He's going to know he's in a fight from the first bell. I'm bringing high pace, high intensity into this fight and he's not going to like it. He's a tough, tricky guy with a good record and it's going to be a good experience for me. Fighting a southpaw is always a good experience. I'm going to make the most out of this fight and I know I'll win."
