WBO super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe is preparing to make the sixteenth defense of his title in front of the fans at the MEN arena in Manchester, England on the eleventh of February, but an opponent for him is yet to be determined. Strong indications are that Calzaghe will have to indulge the challenge of Germany's Mario Veit who recently maintained his WBO mandatory status by beating America's Charles Brewer. The problem with that though, is that Calzaghe already knocked Veit out in a single devastating round almost four years ago. If Calzaghe's name continues to be simply background noise to fighters such as Antonio Tarver, Glen Johnson and Bernard Hopkins and promoter Frank Warren finds himself unable to secure a fight with Kostya Tszyu for his other big-ticket seller, Ricky Hatton, then Calzaghe and Hatton may well find themselves at the MEN once more in frustrating, marking time fights. We will bring you the latest news on this story as it develops.
