There were ‘Fireworks’ last night with a Middleton Derby between Matthew Ryan and Darryl Sharp at the Middleton Arena, but it was home favourite Ryan who secured the victory with an 80-74 points win.
The Pat Barrett – BlackFlash Promotions dinner show (in association with British Boxers) featured four contests in all. Results as follows.
Matthew Ryan (Middleton) v Darryl Sharp (Manchester)
8 x 3 Super-Welterweight Contest
It looked a fairly evenly matched contest with plenty of action from both men but Ryan had a good round three. Sharp, possibly spurred on by the cut to the right brow in the fourth frame, stepped it up and pinned Ryan to the corner under a barrage of shots in the fifth. Flurries of attacks from Sharp throughout though did not deter Ryan who gets the win on points 80-74
Mark Heffron (Oldham) v Attila Tibor Nagy (Hungary)
4 x 3 Super-Middleweight Contest
Heffron scored a second round stoppage after the Hungarian found himself on the canvas mid-way through round two and, having reluctantly got to his feet, Referee Darren Sarginson stopped the fight.
Heffron wins by TKO round 2
Lyndon ‘King’ Arthur (Moston) v Mitch Mitchell (Lincoln)
4 x 3 Light-Heavyweight Contest
Former Team GB member Arthur’s second pro outing was short and sweet against tough Mitchell who was on the canvas twice before being stopped in round 1 by Referee Sarginson. After just a handful of shots were thrown – Mitchell was on his knee from a skimming torso shot followed by two rights to the top of the head. Later that same round, the Lincoln man goes to a knee again and looks at his corner. Referee Darren Sarginson waves the contest off.
Arthur wins by TKO Round 1
Alex McCloy (Blackpool) v Kevin McCauley (Stourbridge)
4 x 3 Super-Welterweight Contest
Good movement from McCloy who dominates from centre of the ring. A right lands on the button and McCauley’s head rocks back in the first round. Warnings to both men at times but the stop-starty fight goes to points with McCloy being the victor.
McCloy wins on points 40-36
