IBF World Heavyweight Champion – Anthony Joshua (Watford, England), retained his title and won the IBO and WBA Heavyweight Titles last night by stopping Ukrainian giant – Wladimir Klitschko, in round eleven of a thrilling contest.
Klitschko was on the canvas in round five then Joshua was down in the sixth and it seemed like Klitschko was en route to a win as Joshua took a while to get back into the flow, but a wicked uppercut in the eleventh sent Klitschko to the canvas and he did well to get up from it. He was on the canvas again moments later and, though he got up again, he was backed against the ropes and under too much pressure from the British man – resulting in Referee David Fields stopping the contest.
The Matchroom promoted event saw a record 90,000-strong crowd packed in to Wembley Stadium and also featured wins from Katie Taylor, Scott Quigg, Luke Campbell and Joe Cordina.
