Boxing In France: Omar Narvaes Defeats Brahim Asloum To Keep WBO Crown

By Ricky Jones March 12th, 2007 All Boxing Results

Argentine flyweight Omar "El Huracan" Narvaes retained his WBO title Saturday night at La Palestre in Le Cannet Cote d'Azur, France by posting a unanimous decision over former French Olympian Brahim Asloum over twelve rounds.

It was the tenth defense for the 31 year old southpaw but it wasn't an easy one. The champion started well, keeping Asloum at the end of the jab until the third round when the challenger closed distance and found Narvaes with sharp hooks.

The Frenchman scored again two rounds later, hurting Narvaes but Asloum proved unable to finish off the Argentinean.

Once Narvaes, 24-0-2 (15), recovered, he put Asloum, 21-2 (8), on notice with a high volume attack that had the challenger on the defensive and unable to repeat the early successes.

Although Asloum recovered to force sporadic skirmishes in the later rounds, it was the big fight experience of
Narvaes that proved to be the difference as the champion maintained the greater focus enroute to securing a points victory to retain the WBO title.

In the main undercard attraction, ex-two time European Welterweight Champion Frederic Klose, 40-5 (8), kept busy with an eight round victory over Venezuelan Carlos Donquiz, 13-6 (13).
