‘I’m a celebrity Get me out of Here’ is back! And this year – Olympic Champion and professional boxer - Amir Khan, has entered the Australian jungle, along with Jack Maynard (Youtube star), Dennis Wise (former footballer), Jennie McAlpine (Coronation Street), Jamie Lomas (Hollyoaks) Stanley Johnson (Boris’s Dad), Georgia ‘Tof’ Toffolo (Made in Chelsea), Vanessa White (The Saturdays), Shappi Khorsandi (Comedienne), Rebekkah Vardy (Footballer - Jamie Vardy’s wife).
Amir – in my opinion the ‘top’ celebrity – arrived in the same manner as his fellow jungle-mates, ie. by speedboat, to a plush venue for their ‘last’ top-class meal.
He was funny, making jokey comments to hosts – Ant and Dec - as he arrived, saying he hadn’t watched the programme (!) and was then paired with Vanessa White for the first challenge. A competitive Khan said ‘They don’t call me Amir ‘King’ Khan for nothing’.
Travelling by helicopter to the first ‘test’, he admitted - ‘I am bad with heights’ when he first spotted the plank challenge (a plank suspended on a tower 330 feet in the air). As the last pair to go on the plank - it was Vanessa who struggled the most. But, despite his own fear – Amir supported Vanessa with encouraging words and gave her a hug at the end.
Victorious in the challenge, the jungle-buddies entered the ‘basic’ camp, with Amir adding - ‘I don’t like a lot of leaves’. Bad news if you’re about to stay for 3 weeks in a jungle!
At the end of the first episode, Amir and ‘Tof’ are voted (by the public) to face the first Bush-tucker trial of the series, together.
