At the Robin Park Centre, Wigan, on Saturday night, Dale Coyne of Ancoats scored an 80-73 points victory over Ben Davies of Barnsley in a thrilling Super-Middleweight contest. It was toe-to-toe action throughout, with both men – heads up close – digging in the body-shots. The work-rate from Coyne was relentless and Davies did well to take so many punches to the body, but he kept coming back to return Coynes advances. A fantastic round seven saw real determination from the two boxers to keep up the pace in this gruelling contest over eight rounds, with Coyne declared the victor.
Also on the Steve Wood – VIP Boxing Promotions show, Liam Taylor of Middleton had Czech opponent Daniel Bazo on the canvas in round 2. Bazo then retired on his stool complaining of an ear injury.
The eight-bout show also saw wins from Failsworth’s Danny ‘The Wolf’ Wright who forced the stoppage of Czech boxer Jan Korec. ‘Sugar’ Kane Gardner of Beswick scored a first round KO of Andy Ponsford of Portsmouth. And there were shut-out points’ victories for Andrew Fleming, Adam Ridge and James Moorcroft. Colin Day of Skelmersdale suffered a marginal points’ defeat (38-39) to Jordan Ellison of Seaham, County Durham.
